The St. Lawrence University softball team defeated SUNY Canton by the scores of 9-0 (5) and 10-2 (6) on Saturday afternoon, earning the doubleheader sweep on "Senior Day". The Saints, who combined for 28 hits on the day, improve to 19-13 on the season and will host St. John Fisher tomorrow afternoon in the final home doubleheader for the Saints' three members of the class of 2013, Chelsea Cavellier, Liz McGinley and Lauren Weisbarth.

The Saints' pitching staff, consisting of McGinley and Kyle Plimpton, kept the ‘Roos off balance throughout the day. McGinley earned the win on the mound in game two, becoming the program's all-time leader in victories with 26 as she allowed four hits while striking out 10 and walking one. Plimpton tossed a two-hitter in Saturday's opener, striking out 10 and walking four in five innings of work.

Weisbarth paced the Saints offensively, going 4-for-6 with a triple, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Natasha bell was also 4-for-6 and added two runs, while Rebecca Allen and Cavellier added three hits apiece and combined for five runs.

In the nightcap, SUNY Canton's Tina DeLuca led her team off with a single to right field in the second game of the afternoon, and Sharon Cordero was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Nicole Mulieri followed with a single to centerfield to load the bases, but McGinley settled down and struck out the next three batters to get out of the inning.

St. Lawrence took a 2-0 lead on three hits. Weisbarth hit a two-out triple to right center and then scored on Caroline Kieltyka's single. After Kieltyka stole second base, Cailyn Welsh followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A passed ball allowed Kieltyka to score to put the Saints up 2-0.

Canton would even the score in the top of the third. Cordero singled to centerfield, Mulieri was hit by a pitch, and then Andrea Rogers hit a double to left-center to bring both runners home.

St. Lawrence pulled ahead 6-2 in the bottom of the third, as Bell hit an infield single, advanced to second on an error, and then would come around to score on Cavellier's bunt single on the next at bat. Cavellier would stole second and advance to third on a passed ball before scoring on O'Connor's bunt single to the pitcher. Allen followed with a triple to left-center to knock home O'Connor, and then scored on Weisbarth's ground out to give the Saints a 6-2 lead.

The Saints added two more runs in the fourth inning. Welsh and Bell both had singles, and Welsh scored from third on a wild pitch. McGinley's single to left-center would bring Bell home to put the Saints ahead 8-2.

St. Lawrence looked to score more runs in the fifth inning when Allen and Weisbarth led off with back to back singles to centerfield. Canton, however, made a couple nice defensive plays, including a reflex snag on Kieltyka's line drive by DeLuca, to keep the Saints scoreless in the inning.

The home team would earn the win in the next inning, however, as Cavellier, McGinley and Marissa Boyer loaded the bases. Cavellier would cross home plate on a passed ball before Audra Caine hit an RBI single down the left field line, bringing McGinley home to give the Saints the 10-2 victory.

In the opener, St. Lawrence took at 3-0 lead in the second inning. Kieltyka reached on an error and Weisbarth followed with a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Both runners would score when Stratton ripped a 2-RBI triple to left-center, and then she would make it 3-0 when she crossed home on a wild pitch.

St. Lawrence would put the game away in the third inning, scoring five runs on six hits to take an 8-0 lead. O'Connor tripled, McGinley doubled, and Bell, Weisbarth, Allen and Abby Hewett each had singles in the inning.

SUNY Canton, who got hits from Amanda Bitting and Kaylin Switzer, landed runners on first and second base with no outs on three occasions during the game. Plimpton, however, pitched out of the jams to earn her ninth victory of the season.
