Senior pitcher Kyle Plimpton was solid on the mound for St. Lawrence softball on Thursday evening, striking out five and giving up just five hits to No. 7 Luther College in a 4-0 loss.
The Saints kept Luther within reach until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Norse scored three runs with the help of three St. Lawrence errors to increase their lead to 4-0. Luther's first run of the game came on an inside-the-park homerun when Hiliary Pennington hit the ball down the right field line and it rolled all the way to the wall in the bottom of the third inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, St. Lawrence loaded the bases with singles by Kelsey Murphy, Jordan Sheridan and Kylee Knight but wasn't about to put any runs across before Brady Cooper grounded out to short.
Aisha O'Connor and Laura Finley also added hits for the Saints, who were even with the Norse with five a piece in the game.
Thursday's second game against SUNY Geneseo was called due to rain with no score and two outs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Saints will finish their Florida schedule with games against Stevenson and SUNY Fredonia on Friday morning at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m., respectively.
