Skylar Hein went 5-for-7 on the first day of her collegiate career to lead the St. Lawrence University softball team to a split in the team's first games of the season on Saturday afternoon in Clermont, Florida.

The Saints fell to Wisconsin-River Falls (12-3), which was playing for the last day of its trip to Florida, 11-1 in the opener before posting a 3-1 win over Lawrence University (2-1) in the second game.

St. Lawrence scored first against the Falcons, with Emma Reakes plating Deanna Sullivan with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, but Amber Galloway tied the game with a home run down the left field line in the second.

The game remained tied for the next two innings, but the Falcons broke it open with three runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Noelle Senour and Kaia Dorn were both 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Shannan Borchardt was 2-for-3 and Aiyana Ledwein was 2-for-5.

Hein and Elle Gray were both 2-for-3 for the Saints, while Sullivan was 2-for-4.

Hannah Stegemen got the win for Wisconsin-River Falls, allowing seven hits and one run with two strikeouts in four innings of work. Caroline Young took the loss for the Saints, allowing four runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings.

Young came back strong in the second game against Lawrence, allowing just three hits in a complete-game victory with three strikeouts and no walks.

The Saints once again jumped out to an early lead, with Hein singling home Sullivan in the top of the first inning, but the Vikings' Lexi Angemi tied the score with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.

Hein drove a double down the left field line to start the fourth inning, and pinch runner Meryl Adams scored on a single up the middle by Angelina Carney to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Sullivan scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a sharply hit ground ball to short by Hein.

Hein was 3-for-4 with two RBi in the second game of the day, while Sullivan and Carney were both 2-for-4. Angemi was 2-for-3 to lead the Vikings' offense.

The Saints, now 1-1 on the season, will face Sewanee at 9 a.m. and Farmingdale State at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
