Taylor Armijo was 4-for-7 at the plate, but the St. Lawrence University softball team lost a pair of Liberty League games at the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon by 2-1 and 8-4 scores.

The Yellowjackets scored two runs in the first inning of the first game on sacrifice flies, Gianna Melillo went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the second game, and Elizabeth Bourne threw a complete game for the win in the first game and pitched the final three innings to pick up a save in the second, allowing just one run in 10 innings of work.

Game 1: Rochester 2, St. Lawrence 1

Lydia Petricca and Melillo both drove in a run on sacrifice flies to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Deanna Sullivan hit an RBI single in the fifth and added another hit in the seventh, but was stranded at second base before the Saints could push the tying run across.

Bourne scattered eight hits and struck out seven with no walks, going the full seven innings for the win. McKailey Lyndaker took the loss, allowing both runs on three hits and one walk in two innings of work. Madison Mitchell threw four shutout innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out five with one walk.

Armijo and Sullivan were both 2-for-4 from the plate for the Saints.

Game 2: Rochester 8, St. Lawrence 4

The Yellowjackets once again built a 2-0 lead in the first inning, this time on Melillo's two-run shot over the left field fence.

The Saints took their first lead of the day with a three-run fourth inning, with Alexandra Barter and Mitchell plating runs on RBI singles. Caitlin Syphurs also got an RBI on a fly ball to center that ended up being a fielder's choice when the runner at first was thrown out at second.

But Rochester took the lead right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Petricca hit a ball through the right side for one run, and Melillo plated two more with a double down the left field line.

The Saints' first three batters reached base to load the bases in the fifth, bringing Bourne into the game in relief. After Angelina Carney worked a bases-loaded walk, Bourne struck out the next hitter and retired two more on groundouts, with the second out coming at home plate, to preserve a 5-4 lead.

Alexis Pope gave the Yellowjackets some breathing room with a three-run homer in the sixth.

Melillo was 2-for-4 with four RBI, while Pope was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Petricca was 2-for-4 for the Yellowjackets.

Armijo went 2-for-3 for the Saints, while Mann was 2-for-4.

Hannah Leahy got the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks in four innings. Caroline Young took the loss in relief of Mitchell, allowing three runs on three hits in three innings.
