The St. Lawrence University field hockey team scored three times in the first half en route to a 4-0 shutout of Hartwick College on Saturday in Oneonta, NY.

The Saints (2-1) outshot the Hawks, 14-9, which each team had 11 penalty corners.  Sophomore Nicole Matos got the win in goal for the Saints stopping Hartwick's only shot on goal, while Megan Campbell suffered the loss, allowing four goals and making three saves.

Senior Emily Riley gave the Scarlet and Brown a 1-0 game only 3:40 into the first half, scoring her first goal of the game on a penalty stroke after a Hartwick infraction.  The Saratoga Springs, NY native sent her shot past Campbell into the upper-right portion of the cage for an early St. Lawrence lead.

The Saints would waste little time in tacking on a second goal at the 10:35 mark, when junior Courtney Davis picked up her first goal of the season.  The Hawks gave the ball away in the midfield, and junior Ashley Ferenczy had no one between her and the Hartwick net.  Once she cut into the circle, Ferenczy slipped a perfect pass to Davis who finished into an open goal with Campbell out of position for the 2-0 lead.

Riley would cap the first half scoring for St. Lawrence, as she hammered a shot from the top of the circle for the 3-0 cushion before halftime.  The goal was her third of the season and came at 25:19.

With the St. Lawrence defense protecting Matos well, the offense continued to go to work late in the second half.  First-year student Ali Ferenczy sent a crossing pass from the left side of Campbell's cage to her sister Ashley, who scored her second goal of the season with only 5:06 remaining to seal the 4-0 win.

The Saints will be in action again on Wednesday, September 14 when the team hosts Morrisville State at 5:30pm for the 2011 home opener at Hall-Leet Stadium.
