St. Lawrence University junior alpine skier Graham Scott earned his fourth career top-5 finish on Saturday in the giant slalom at the 2014 EISA Championships hosted by Middlebury College. The Chelsea, QC native will advance to the 2014 NCAA Championships along with classmate Allison Visconti.
Scott finished in fifth place on Saturday, landing his second career top-5 finish at the EISA Championships. He had two top-eight runs to finish in 1:56.06, earning 39.0 points for St. Lawrence's men's alpine squad. Dustin Martin, competing for the final time for St. Lawrence, and Taber Engelken capped the scoring at 70.0 points in 29th and 36th, respectively, as the team finished in sixth place overall.
Nick Stenicka, who was 14th in the slalom yesterday, was 40th, while Loudon Fruth (41st) and Ben DeFlavio (DNF) also raced for the Saints. It was also DeFlavio's final carnival for the Scarlet and Brown.
The St. Lawrence women's team struggled in the GS on Saturday, closing with 22.0 points and in 13th position. Hannah Kadah and Amie Lonza finished 39th and 40th, respectively, to lead the way while Maria Hillenbrand and Ciar Colgan tied for 43rd place. Sophia Frankenburg (45th) and Visconti (DNF) also raced in the women's event.
The University of Vermont swept the team results on Saturday, with Kate Ryley also winning the individual women's title for the Catamounts. Middlebury's Hig Roberts won the men's GS.
Scott will compete in the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year, while Visconti will be making her first appearance at the national races. The 2014 NCAA Championships are being hosted by the University of Utah in Park City, UT on March 5-8. The alpine races will be March 6 (giant slalom) and March 8 (slalom).
