St. Lawrence University's track and field athlete Allison Scarf scored points toward the team championship in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference hwith a sixth place finish in her first outdoor multi-event competition at Ithaca on Sunday and Monday.
Scarf went into Monday's final three events in the seven-event competition in fifth place with 2239 points and first year teammate Teresa Grigg was eighth.. The top eight in the field score points toward the team title in the NYSCTC Outdoor Championship which St. Lawrence will host at the Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field complex on Friday and Saturday. Both slipped one spot in the final standings in Monday competition.
Scarf and Grigg were among several competitors who tied for second in the high jump competition at 1.46 meters, earning 577 points each, and Scarf was second in the shot put with a 9.00 meter throw, worth 464 points. She ran the 100 hurdles in 16.82 (617 points) and the 200 meters in 28.65 (581). Grigg ran the hurdles in 18.30 (458), threw the shot 7.62 meters (375) and ran 28.04 (628) in the 200
Scarf earned a total of 3534 ponts in the competition, picking up 436 with a 4.53 long jump, 392 with a 25.51 meter throw in the javelin and 468 with a 2:49.56 clocking in the 800 on day two. Grigg scored 352 points with a 4.19 meter long jump, threw the javelin 21.98 meters for 326 ponts and was fourth in the 800 in 2:29.67 for 697 points.
In other competition Sunday several Saint athletes competed in the Cornell Invitational to prep for the weekend NYSCTC championship meet. Senior high jumper Kylie Morris had the top finish for the Saints with a tie for sixth at 1.61 meters. Sophomore Eliza Bell was 10th in the high jump at 1.56 meters and sophomore Meghan O'Brien finished ninth in the javelin with a 29.58 meter throw for the other Saint top-ten finishes in the meet.
O'Brien also competed in the long jump (28th) and triple jump (29th) while Katherine Gilbert was 11th in the javelin and 16th in the hammer. Jaleigh Pier was 23rd and Samantha Yee 27th in the 400 meters, Staci Czaja 19th in the 800 and Taylor Washington was 19th in the pole vault.
The 12-team NYSCTC Championship will begin at 2 p.m. Friday and continue through Saturday at the Merrick-Pinkard complex.
