The St. Lawrence University volleyball team defeated RIT before falling to New York University in the second day of the Upstate Regional Tournament in Nazareth, NY. The Saints finished in second place at the tournament, with a 3-1 record on the weekend.

The Saints defeated the RIT Tigers 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21) in the first game of the day, a team they had already split with this season.

Leading the Saints attack that hit .289 were juniors Nyasha Miller and Liz Grogan. Miller recorded 19 kills with a.471 hitting percentage, while Grogan had 14 kills with a .414 hitting percentage.

On defense, senior Jordyn Buzza, along with Miller, led the Saints with 12 digs apiece.

In the second match of the day, the Scarlet and Brown battled the NYU Violets - ranked #15 in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Saints fell in three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) to claim second place at the tournament for the second straight year.

Senior Abby Rose lead the Saint offense with 22 assists, while Grogan recorded nine kills and senior Lauren Drozynski had six kills. Miller and first-year student Katie Prue each contributed 13 digs.

The Saints will look to take the momentum from their strong play at the Upstate Regional Tournament into next weekend when they host the 2010 Liberty League Championships.
