The St. Lawrence University riding team claimed the 2014 Zone 2 Championship on Sunday at the Hunt Club in Fairfield, CT. The victory sends the Saints to the IHSA Nationals in Harrisburg, PA May 1-4 as the team will compete for its third consecutive national crown.

The Saints finished with 46 points at Zones, nine ahead of their 2013 co-national champions from Skidmore College. Cornell finished third with 34 points. The top two teams at Zones qualify for nationals.

Riding in the team competition, Alyssa Bokor picked up a win in the open equitation over fences and a runner-up showing in intermediate equitation on the flat. Senior captain Jessie Lewis also delivered a key win in equitation over fences and Manon Edeline took first in the walk trot equitation while Katherine Figueroa was second in novice equitation on the flat.

Emily D'Alessandro, an individual national champion in 2012, had an impressive outing for St. Lawrence on Sunday. D'Alessandro won the open equitation on the flat and qualified as an indivual for nationals in that event. She will compete for the Cacchione Cup, and will be joined at the IHSA Nationals as an individual competitor by Mackenzie Alderman, the champion in the class 6 intermediate equitation over fences.

Sunday's win at Zones is the eighth team win of the season for the Saints, and they will look to add another national crown in four weeks when the IHSA hosts the best riders from across the country at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
