The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten this season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Saints defeated Potsdam State by the score of 10-6 to improve to 6-0 in 2012. Senior Steve Cargill had an impressive outing, winning 14-of-20 face-offs while junior Dave Hovey had a team-high four points.

St. Lawrence finished with a 34-28 advantage in shots and a 35-29 lead in ground balls. Though Potsdam State goaltender Mike Quinlan made 16 saves, the Bears fell to 3-2 on the season.

"We are very happy to go over to Potsdam and come away with a win against a very solid team. I thought Steve Cargill and our face-off unit did a great job which allowed us to gain some possessions and create some momentum late in the third quarter with two quick goals," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney. "The continued balance on the offensive score sheet was nice to see as well."

A total of nine different players scored points for the Saints, led by Hovey's two-goal, two-assist outing. Senior co-captain Kyle Jacobsen added a pair of goals, while Pierson Fowler, Dave Schoettler, Drake Paul, Cam Scullen, Justin Ingram and Connor Behun each had one tally.

Between the pipes, junior goaltenders Jeff Goeke and Jack Nuland continued to split time for the Scarlet and Brown. Goeke made two saves in the first half, while Nuland made six in the final two frames including four in the fourth quarter.

St. Lawrence opened up a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Potsdam State answered back with two consecutive tallies. After Ingram and Rob Kunz exchanged goals to bring the game to 4-3, Jacobsen and Paul scored back-to-back goals only 56 seconds apart to close the first half scoring with the visitors on top 6-3.

Peter Pike would open the third quarter scoring for the Bears to get the home team back within two. However four straight goals by the Saints, including two from Scullen and Jacobsen only five seconds apart, would give St. Lawrence the momentum en route to the 10-6 victory.

Kunz finished with a game-high five points (3g,2a). Junior Jake Wynn led the Saints with five ground balls, while Scullen added two ground balls and two caused turnovers to compliment his first goal of the season.

St. Lawrence will be back in action this Saturday against its toughest opponent to date, nationally-ranked No. 12 Union College. The Saints and Dutchmen will square off at 12:00pm in Schenectady, NY.
