St. Lawrence University's athletic program has matched its highest ranking since the introduction of the Director's Cup in 1995-96, finishing the fall season ranked 14th among 162 NCAA Division III programs which qualified for ranking in the Learfield Cup standings.

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics runs what is now the Learfield Cup, which ranks programs based on participation in NCAA tournaments and championships. A total of seven fall sports are considered for ranking with points awarded based on team finish in the NCAA championships.

St. Lawrence earned points in men's cross country (85) with a third place finish, women's cross country (28) with a 23rd place finish, men's soccer (50) with a second round tournament appearance and in football (25) with a first round appearance. The Saint total of 188 points for the fall season is second among New York State schools with Cortland finishing 11th with 201 points. Other Liberty League schools in the rankings include Rochester in 37th, Hobart/William Smith tied for 59th along with Skidmore, and Clarkson and Hamilton, tied for 89th with 50 points.

The 14th place ranking in the fall season matches the best in SLU program history...which came in the fall of 1999 after the men's soccer team won the NCAA Division III championship. St. Lawrence teams won five Liberty League championships in the fall of 2010...men's soccer, men's and women's cross country, football and volleyball with soccer and football earning automatic NCAA bids and the cross country teams earning their team appearances with a win by the women and a second place finish by the men in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
