Junior Kara Pelosi had her first career multi-goal game with three, leading St. Lawrence University's field hockey team to a 5-0 non-league victory at Wells College on Saturday afternoon.
Pelosi scored the only goal of the first half on a tip in off a cross by Katie Klein at the 7:18 mark and added a pair of second half goals to increase her season total to four and help the Saints improve to 2-3 on the season.
The Saints had a 20-14 overall edge in shots and a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal. Wells was scoreless in 11 penalty corner tries while the Saints had seven penalty corners. Junior goaltender Kim Haab earned her second win of the season and first career shutout making seven saves while Sidney Line made 12 saves for Wells.
The Saints blew the game open in the second half, scoring four times on ten shots in the half. Pelosi made it a 2-0 game when she tipped home her second of the day at 47:49, tipping home a long entry from the tip of the circle by Anna Hughes. Sam Haab then scored her second of the year when she took a pass from Hughes at the top of the circle and shot to the left corner at 54:25 to make it a 3-0 game.
Pelosi completed her hat trick at 65:58 when she put back a rebound of a shot by Erica French which was kicked out by Line and junior Molly Manning completed the scoring with her first career goal as she controlled her own rebound and put it back through traffic at 69:38.
SLU will return to action with games against Lebanon Valley and Manhattanville at William Smith Sept. 20 and 21.
