Saints open men's track season with win at holiday relays

St. Lawrence University men's indoor track and field team opened the 2013-14 season with a 194.5-80.5 win over the University of Ottawa in the Saint Holiday Relays at the Newell Field House on Saturday.

Spencer Patterson led a one-two-three finish in the mile, winning in 4:34.85 with Adam Bankert second and Robert Brandell third. Harrison Sloan set a meet record in 1:55.69 in winning the 800 with Dennis Korir second and Nick Crawford won the 200 in 22.84 with Adrian Wilson third.

Omaru Kabia won the 60 meters in 7.10 with Wilson again third and joined his brother Alimamy, Michael Concannon and Daniel Viscardi on the winning 4x200 relay which ran 1:37.89. The Saints won the distance medley relay with a team of Joshua Ringer, William Manning, Alec MacCrory and Adam Bankert running 11:30.56. The Saint 4x400 relay won in 3:33.69 with a team of Chris Payton, Adrian Wilson, Sloan and Crawford.

Viscardi finished second in the 400 meters while Payton was third in the 60 hurdles.

In field events, Scott Kasson won the shot put with a 13.55 meter throw and came back to take the weight with a 14.29 meter mark. Brian Kane won the triple jump with a 12.87 meter series with Alimamy Kabia second and Kane was second and Crawford third in the high jump with Payton third in the long jump.

The Saints are now off for exams and the holidays and will return to action Jan. 11 at Ottawa.
