Sean Richardson threw three touchdown passes, including two to Travis Marnell, to lead the St. Lawrence University football team to a 36-14 win over the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon on Weeks Field at Leckonby Stadium.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Saints, who improved to 2-5, 1-2 in the Liberty League. Rochester fell to 2-5, 0-3.

Richardson found Marnell near the line of scrimmage, and Marnell ran more than 20 yards after the catch, dodging would-be tacklers before finding the end zone to give the Saints a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game.

Rochester responded with a 12-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, capped by a one-yard scoring run by Emanuel Calmar, to tie the score.

St. Lawrence, however, scored three straight touchdowns before the end of the half to take a 27-7 lead at the break.

Jack Buis started the run with a 75-yard touchdown run up the right side near the end of the first quarter. Richardson hit Cameron Edwards for a 31-yard touchdown to cap a nine-play, 97-yard drive with 2:30 left in the second quarter, and Richardson found Marnell in the right corner of the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown with just 23 seconds left in the half.

The Yellowjackets cut the lead to two scores on their first drive of the second half, with Daniel Bronson capping an 80-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown run. But the Saints started to pull away late in the third quarter, as Tyler Mirabile forced a fumble by Rochester quarterback Josh Brown deep in Yellowjacket territory, and Matt Cognetta scored on a 1-yard run four plays later to give the Saints a 34-14 lead. The Saints capped the scoring with a safety after a snap on a punt attempt sailed over the Rochester punter's head and into the end zone.

Richardson finished the day 15-for-22 passing for 205 yards. Buis had his first 100-yard game on the ground for the Saints, netting 113 yards on 12 carries, while Cognetta had 62 yards on 20 attempts. The Saints tied a season high with 223 rushing yards.

Marnell posted his second 100 yard receiving game of the season, totaling 105 yards on six catches. Vincenzo Ferraro made four catches for 34 yards and now has 164 career receptions, just three shy of the program record held by Mitch Gallagher '17.

Brown was 12-for-24 passing for 138 yards, while Calmar led the Yellowjackets' ground game, gaining 85 yards on 23 carries. David Angie made three catches for 89 yards, while Bronson had four receptions for 39 yards.

Mirabile led the Saints' defense with 12 tackles, including 3.5 sacks and the forced fumble. Tyler Burns added seven tackels for the Saints, who had a season-high six sacks.

Ricky Simcic led the Yellowjackets with 11 tackles and two sacks.

The Saints also had a big game from their returners, with Anthony Ferraro racking up 104 yards on three kickoff returns, including a 44-yarder, while Austen Lauricella returned two punts for a total of 60 yards.

St. Lawrence will play its third straight home game next week, hosting Rensselaer in another Liberty League game at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Leckonby Stadium.
