Jeremy Vautour scored six goals and Conor Healey added three goals and four assists for seven points leading the St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse team to a convincing 25-2 victory over New England College Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

St. Lawrence wasted little time getting started Wednesday against New England (13-7) as Vautour scored his first goal of the game just 1:06 into the contest.

Alec Dietsch won the ensuing face-off and fed Jordan Dow for a goal just 12 seconds later to make it 2-0.

"Getting that first goal was important," said team captain Vautour. "After last weekend and losing in the Liberty League Tournament, it was important to us to get off to a quick start today."

Vautour scored the next four consecutive goals in a span of nine minutes giving the Saints a 6-0 lead. Andrew Jarrett, Healey and Brett McCormack added assists in the streak.

"I was a little surprised at the fast start," said Head Coach Mike Mahoney. "We saw film on them and know they had a potent offense but I think the key was to win so many of the early face-offs. We controlled the ball and kept it in our offensive zone and out of their hands. I didn't expect this type of game but we are happy with the win and now can start getting ready tomorrow for the next game."

Healey scored his first at the 1:43 mark in the quarter and Gardner Imhoff capped the first quarter scoring with an assist from Healey with 31 second left as the Saints took an 8-0 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Charlie Duprey started the second quarter with a goal just 1:01 into the period to make it a 9-0 game before New England finally scored off the ensuing face-off as Skyler Saunders scored 22 seconds later.

Healey added his second goal of the game 32 seconds later before Steven Peterson and Malcolm Lynch scored to give the Saints a 12-1 lead.

Vautour scored 11 seconds after Lynch and McCormack added another goal 33 seconds later for a 14-1 lead.

Connor Brimley, Jamie DeNicola and Healey all scored before the end of the first half for a 17-1 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Duprey opened the scoring 19 seconds into the period before Dow and Imhoff added two goals each in the quarter for a commanding 22-1 lead with 7:14 left in the third quarter.

The Pilgrims scored their second goal of the game with 3:02 left in the third as the team's leading scorer, Sean Largay, scored and the Saints took a 22-2 lead into the final quarter.

Jamie Kuppel, Jarrett and Brimley all scored in the last 15 minutes to wrap up the high-scoring contest.

Vautour had six goals and two assists to lead the Saints with eight points, Healey added seven points on his three goals and four assists while Dow and Imhoff each scored three times. Dietsch added three assists and led the team with 11 ground balls wining 10-of-11 face-offs. Ryan Fisher made three saves to improve to 16-2 on the year.

"When you got the tournament down to 16 teams you know every game is going to be a battle," said Mahoney. "We just need to stay focused and have a couple good practices and get ready for the next game."
