The St. Lawrence University women's rowing team raced in the 2014 Liberty League Championships on Sunday in Saratoga Springs, NY. The Saints' novice 8+ had an excellent showing, finishing behind William Smith by only 2.7 seconds despite limited time on the water this spring.
The Herons, who swept the conference championship races which included St. John Fisher and the University of Rochester for the first time, posted a time of 7:29.07 in the novice race. St. Lawrence followed in 7:31.77, well ahead of RIT (7:51.48) and Skidmore (7:53.25). Sarah Heatherton coxed the novice 8+ which also included Laura Greshin, Emma Morgan, Sarah Evarts, Annie Williams, Jen Lifsitz, Keckeley Habel, Mikayla Thomas and Kailash Heron.
The Saints varsity 8+ raced in a time of 7:27.79, finishing fifth in the field ahead of St. John Fisher. William Smith won the conference title in 6:54.05, well ahead of RIT and Rochester who tied for second and Union in fourth. St. Lawrence's varsity boat was coxed by Yuki McQueeney and was rowed by Gabby Schreffler, Ellie Jones, Abbie McIvor, Karen Blakelock, Heidi Weiss, Daniela Stokes, Hannah Durant and Jenette Kloss.
The Saints' women's rowing team will compete in next weekend's New York State Championships in Whitney Point, NY.
