St. Lawrence University senior Nordic skier Austin Meng posted a career-best sixth place finish in the men's 10K Classic at the 2015 Middlebury Carnival this weekend, boosting his odds for a spot in the field in the 2015 NCAA Ski Championships in March.

Meng, who hadn't finished higher than 10th place in his collegiate career, had a fantastic race in Friday's classic and propelled himself position for a bid in the national championships in Lake Placid, NY. The Truckee, CA native was fifth amongst EISA competitors and earned 37.0 points for his finish. Blaine Ayotte was 21st followed by Will Frielinghaus in 31st to cap the team's scoring at 77.0 points in fourth place overall. Calvin Swomley (32nd), Philip Marshall (46th) and Kyle Curry (49th) also raced for St. Lawrence in the 10K Classic, which was won by Dartmouth while individual honors were taken by UVM's Jorgen Grav.

Meng followed his career-best showing with a 22nd place finish in the 10K Free, pacing his team to sixth place with a total of 63.0 points. Curry had a better race in 24th, while Frielinghaus again capped the scoring in 29th. Swomley (31st) and Ayotte (37th) also competed in the freestyle. The University of Vermont took the team title, led by individual winner Rogan Brown.

Erin Perryman was the top St. Lawrence finisher in both women's races, including a 31st place showing in the 5K free on Saturday. She was joined by Kate Mulcahy (43rd) and Dana Hatton (57th) in the scoring as the trio was 10th overall with 32.0 points. India Harvey (61st), Taren McGray (69th) and Elizabeth Landry (70th) also raced on Saturday. Annika Taylor of UNH won individual honors, while the University of Vermont took the team standings.

The Saints struggled in Friday's 10K Classic at the Rikert Nordic Center, finishing in 13th position with 13.0 points. Perryman was the top finisher in 45th place, but with Mulcahy out, Harvey and McGray scored in 56th and 58th respectively. Hatton (59th) and Landry (60th) also competed in the event which was won by Middlebury College thanks to individual champion Heather Mooney.

The Middlebury Carnival caps the 2015 EISA regular season, with just the 2015 NCAA Regional Championships remaining at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, NY. It will be the final chance for individuals to improve their standing for a spot in the field at the 2015 NCAA Skiing Championships from March 11-14.
