Sophomore Kyle Flanagan scored a pair of goals, to help St. Lawrence to a 4-2 second period lead at Michigan Tech on Friday night, but the Huskies battled back with two goals in the final 3:55 of the second period and the two teams skated to a 4-4 tie at MacInnes Ice Arena.

It was the second straight 4-4 tie in the series between the two teams with Michigan Tech snapping a 14-game losing streak with the tie. The Saints, 6-10-4, and Huskies, now 3-15-3, will meet in a 5:07 p.m. rematch on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman goalie Matt Weninger, whose brothers David and Todd both tended goal at Michigan Tech, set a career high with 39 saves in the tie, making 16 of them in a scoreless third period as the Huskies pulled out all the stops in a bid to earn their first win since October.

"Michigan Tech is a very young team and they have some skilled players. They have been struggling, but they have played a lot of good teams tough," said Saint coach Joe Marsh. "I thought we did a pretty good job at times, but it was a game that both teams are going to think they should have won."

Michigan Tech, which came into the game scoring at 22.8 percent on the power play, showed why on the first of their nine power play chances in the game. Defenseman Steven Seigo scored his fourth of the season after some pretty passing just 11 seconds into the first power play chance of the game to give Tech a 1-0 lead.

The Saints came back to tie it shortly after one of their only two power play opportunities in the game expired as Aaron Bogosian took a pass from Greg Carey and snapped a shot just under the crossbar at 7:38, just 20 seconds after the Saint power play had elapsed. SLU did score on its second power play chance to take a 2-1 lead as Justin Baker made a pretty cross-crease pass to Kyle Flanagan who skated down the slot and wristed a shot into the open upper corner of the net for his sixth of the year at 17:18 to make it 2-1 after one.

The Huskies tied it at 2-2 at 2:52 of the second period with Ryan Furne scoring his seventh of the year on a cross-crease pass from Milos Gordic, but the Saints came flying back to take a 4-2 lead.

Kyle Flanagan scored his second of the night from Carey and George Hughes at 7:55, taking a pass from Hughes deep in the Tech end and snapping a shot off the near post and in and Jared Keller, playing in just his sixth game of the year, scored a shorthanded goal for his first of the season from Jacob Drewiske at 14:22.

Tech battled back when Gordic scored his 11th of the season when the puck was sent up the side boards after Saint pressure and Gordic went one-on-one against Weninger, sliding the puck inside the far post at 16:05. Tech tied it at 17:33 when freshman Dennis Rix scored his second of the season on a tough angle from along the goal line as the puck hit the inside of Weninger's pad and banked into the net.

Tech outshot the Saints 13-8 in the third period, but both Weninger and Robinson were equal to the task. Michigan Tech also had a 4-1 edge in shots on goal in the overtime, but again Weninger came up with some big saves to preserve the tie for the Saints. Robinson finished with 29 stops for the Huskies, who outshot the Saints 43-33 with 13 of the 43 shots coming on power plays.
