Saints men's xcountry finish 3rd in 45-team AAE Invitational

St. Lawrence University's men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 50 and finished third in the 45-team AAE Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday.

The race, a preview of the NCAA Division III nationals which will be run on the same 8 kilometer course in November, featured 14 nationally ranked men's teams in the field. The Saints, ranked 13th in the most recent poll, finished behind top-ranked Wisconsin Eau Claire, which won with 99 points and third ranked North Central, which was second with 131. SLU finished with 174 points while Wisconsin Stevens Point was fourth with 212. Wabash College, ranked 11th nationally was fifth and fifth ranked Washington College was sixth.

Junior Thomas Caulfield led the Saints with a seventh place finish, running 24:49.6 and the Saint top five finished within 57 seconds with Joe Smith 11th in 24:55.5, Sidi Abdoulaye 32nd in 25:12.5, Wesley Kirui 42nd in 25:19.9 and Ben Fishbein 82nd in 25:45.6.

It was Caulfield's fifth top ten finish in five races and he was just eight seconds off a top five finish.

Spencer Patterson was the sixth Saint finisher scoring 159th and placing 158th in 26:27.7 and Andrew Jarombek completed the Saint top seven scoring 199th and finishing 216th. Brandon Moran was 290th in 27:27.5 and Connor Fulk finished 340th in 28:04.7.

The Saints will run in the NYSCTC Championship at Hamilton College on Oct. 24.
