St. Lawrence University's men's indoor track team stands fifth after day one of the 2016 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships at Ithaca and has a championship relay team to open the competition.
The Saint 4x200 relay of Travis Hamre, Harrison Stivers, Gordon White and Nick Crawford ran 1:29.79 to win that event and account for half of the Saints' day one total of 20 points. The Saints set a facility record and were .08 off the meet record.
Freshman Sidi Abdoulaye and senior Scott Kasson had the other scoring finishes for the Saints on Friday as Abdoulaye was third in the 5000 meters in 15:09.37 while Kasson threw 16.28 meters and was fifth in the weight throw.
Crawford advanced to Saturday's final in the 400 meters with the top qualifying time of 49.56 and Gordon White and Hamre both advanced to the final in the 200 meters with times of 22.90 and 23.24 respectively.
The Saints are fifth in the team standings after the first day of competition.
