Saints men's track take eight of top ten spots, win Cardinal Classic

St. Lawrence University’s men’s cross country team took eight of the top ten places in Saturday’s Cardinal Classic Cross Country Invitational at Plattsburgh State and rolled to the team title in the three-team event.

Saint senior Sam Rakoc was second to Plattsburgh’s Adam Shearer in the race for the individual title and rookie Harrison Sloan ran an impressive first collegiate cross country race to finish third. Plattsburgh’s Chris Martin was fourth and the Saints then nabbed the next six places with the group of Spencer Patterson, Scott Smolensky, Zach Nelson, Corey Hahnl, Jon Eng and Trevor Bibb finishing in a pack with just 13 seconds between Patterson, who was fifth, and Bibb who was tenth

SLU scored 23 points to win the team title with Plattsburgh second with 50 and Clarkson third with 65.

Shearer won the individual title in 16:08.3 with Rakoc second in 16:19.2 and Sloan third in 16:32.2. Patterson ran 16:29.9, Smolensky 16:31, Nelson 16:31.8, Hahnl 16:35, Eng 16:38.8 and Bibb 16:42.9. Brendan Courneene finished 12th in 16:52.1, Jeff Mogavero was 15th in 17:07.5, Phil Marshall was 16th in 17:08.0, Landen Elliott-Knaggs was 20th in 17:20.3, Aaron Tompkins was 23rd in 17:32.5, Steve Petramale was 24th in 17:33.7, Ellis Toll was 25th in 17:37.2, Spencer Fausel was 33rd in 17:54.7, Jason Hardacre was 34th in 17:55.7, Wesley Kirui was 36th in 18:10.8 and Will Moynihan finished 40th in 18:20.7.
