St. Lawrence University senior Trevor Bibb moved into the top ten nationally in Division III in the 10,000 meters Thursday night as the Saint men's track and field team opened competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Bibb ran a personal best 30:48.29, ninth fastest in the nation among Division III athletes thus far this season, and finished 21st in a 30-runner field dominated by Division I athletes. Bibb was one of two Division III competitors in a race won by Ty McCormack of Auburn in 29:21.39.
Saint sophomore Thomas Caulfield finished 19th and senior Scott Smolenski was 31st in the 5,000 in the other men's competition on Thursday. Caulfield ran 15:48.28 while Smolenski was timed in 15:24.57.
The Saint 4x100 relay team of Rajiv Heron, Nick Crawford, Travis Hamre and Gordon White ran 44.55 and finished 61st of 75 entries on Friday, trimming .02 off the season's best. The Saints also improved their season's best in the 4x400 realy at the tam of Hamre, Harrison Stivers, Dan Viscontii and Crawford ran 3:24.56 and finished 45th of 67.
