The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team edged RIT on Sunday evening by the score of 6-3 in the Newell Field House. The Saints, who improve to 11-6 on the season, celebrated the final home match of the team's two seniors, Michael Hayden and Tom Timpone.
St. Lawrence took a 3-0 lead after doubles competition as Rhonny Rosario and Thomas Luchars topped Neville Billimoria and Frank McGinn 8-3 at third doubles and Paul Barrett and Hayden beat Mark Gonzalez and Chandler Daub at first doubles, 8-6. Clayton Tontarski and Kevin Layer defeated John Megas and Rob Schmitz, 8-5 at two for RIT's lone doubles point.
In singles competition, Barrett handily defeated Jason Alexander at five, 6-0, 6-1 before Hayden earned a victory at number one over Tontarski by the score of 6-3, 6-0. After Billimoria brought the score to 4-2 with a win over Rosario at three, 6-4, 6-3, Schmitz clinched the match victory for the Saints by beating Lachance, 6-3, 6-2 at four.
Daub defeated Megas at two, 7-6 (2), 6-3, but Timpone picked up a victory at six over Gonzalez, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) to seal the win for the Saints.
