The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over Albion on Friday to conclude its spring trip in Orlando, FL. The Saints improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Britons fall to 2-4.
St. Lawrence swept doubles competition to take a 3-0 lead. Michael Hayden and Paul Barrett defeated Tucker Blake and Eric Guindi at one, 8-4. John Megas and Rob Schmitz topped Jon Gurnee and Aaron Stanley at two, 8-5, and Tom Timpone and Alan Shortz beat Will Pearl and Steve Nawrocki at three, 8-5.
In singles play, Shortz gave the Saints a 4-0 lead with his win over Nawrocki at six, 6-1, 6-0, then Rhonny Rosario clinched the victory for St. Lawrence when he beat Pearl at four, 6-1, 7-5.
Also notching wins for the Saints were John Megas and Paul Barrett, while Rob Schmitz fell in the third set of the number three match. Megas beat Guindi at two, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and Barrett came back from a set down to defeat Stanley at five, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). Albion's Tucker Blake topped Schmitz, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Saints will begin their spring schedule up north when they travel to Skidmore and Rensselaer on March 23 and 24 for Liberty League matches.
