The Saints closed out their spring training trip with a 5-1 win over Cornell College Thursday morning, in a makeup match that was played to decision. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-3 on the season and snapped a three-match slide.
Alan Shortz came up big for the Scarlet and Brown on Thursday morning, battling back from a 6-1 first set loss at fourth singles to win the second 7-5 and the third 7-6 after a 12-10 tie break win. In total, Shortz saved eight match points and helped the Saints seal the match-deciding point.
Kevin Frommer also battled back in the second position after dropping the second set of his match with Cornell's Thomas Weiss. Frommer eventually edged Weiss 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Other wins for the Saints came from Will Kauppila at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2) over Joseph Gelfand; Will Ballew at No. 5 (6-4, 6-2) over Hiro Harada; and Marco Amendola at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2) over Nolan Schillerstrom.
The Saints will return to Canton and face Oneonta on Saturday, March 15 in the Newell Field House at 2:30 p.m
