A 9-0 shutout win over Union on Saturday helped the St. Lawrence men's tennis team moved above .500 at 6-5 overall in dual matches this season, while the Saints also improved to 2-0 in Liberty League play.
Robert Schmitz and Elliot Solandt blanked their Dutchmen opponents Brendan Conry Jr. and Max McGeown, 8-0, at No.1 doubles, while No. 2 pair Rhonny Rosario and Spencer Whitmire and No. 3 pair Paul Barrett and Garrett Sopko each posted 8-3 win in their respective matches.
Barrett and Marco Amendola earned straight-set shutout wins in singles at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively, to lead the Saints on Saturday. In the other singles matches, Dean Sponholz beat McGeown in the top spot, 6-3, 6-4 and Schmitz downed Conry Jr. in the second, 6-3, 6-0.
Kevin Frommer and Solandt rounded out the Saints wins versus the Dutchmen, as Frommer clinched his match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and Solandt took his 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Saints will play host to both the University of Rochester and Hobart next Saturday and Sunday in a pair of Liberty League matches at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
