Saints men's squash team member Zayas in Quarterfinals at Individual Nationals

Seven Saints opened play in the 2015 College Squash Association Individual National Championships at Princeton on Friday, three in the Pool Trophy competition for players ranked one through 32 and four in the Molloy for players 33 and higher.

Freshman Edgar Zayas advanced to the Pool quarterfinals with a pair of wins on Friday and will play Ahmed Abdel Kalek of Bates on Saturday.

Amr Khalifa, the 2013 CSA individual national champion and 2014 runner-up in the Pool trophy competition is not participating in this year's nationals due to a back injury which has plagued him throughout his junior season. Zayas is the top ranked Saint in the Pool Trophy at tenth while Ahmed Bayoumy is ranked 17th and Ibrahim Khan is 32nd.

Zayas opened play with a 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 win over Derek Hsue of Penn and beat James Van Staveren of Western Ontario 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 in his second round match.

Bayoumy lost to Juan Vargas of Trinity 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 in his first match, but came back to beat Hayes Murphy 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7 in the consolation round and will play Hsue in the consolation quarters on Saturday. Khan lost his opener to Osama Khalifa of Columbia 11-3, 11-7, 11-3 and was beaten in the consolation round by Cole Osborne of Franklin and Marshall 11-8, 11-3, 8-11, 3-11, 11-6.

Anderson Good ranked 36 and is the top-ranked player in the Molloy competition with Hussein Elrayes 39th, Duncan Maxwell 49th and Lockie Munro ranked 52nd.

Maxwell opened competition Friday morning with a 11-4, 11-7, 11-9 win over Kinkaid Webster of Fordham and advanced to meet Joseph Roberts of Yale. Roberts prevailed 11-5, 11-13, 14-12, 11-8 in the second round.

Munro beat Nikhil Punwaney of MIT in his first match and won 11-1, 12-10, 11-3 to advance to meet Afeeq Ismail of Trinity. Ismail was a 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7 winner in round two. Elrayes drew an opening round bye, and lost in round two to Kevin Chen of Williams 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.

Good also received a bye and won his match in the second round, beating Darrius Campbell of Bates 11-6, 11-2, 11-8. Good will play Affeeq Ismail of Trinity in the quarterfinals on Saturday with Maxwell, Elrayes and Munro all playing second round consolation matches on Saturday.
