Saints men's squash team complete weekend sweep with 7-2 win over Princeton

St. Lawrence University's men's squash team completed a weekend sweep of Ivy League opponents Sunday, beating Princeton 7-2 to improve to 6-0 on the season and lay claim to the top ranking in collegiate men's squash.

The second-ranked Saints followed up their 7-2 win over previous number one Harvard with another strong showing throughout the lineup in a battle with the 2-3 Tigers in a match at the Robie Squash Center.

The Saints won five of their nine matches in straight games on Sunday while senior Anderson Good prevailed in five games at in the five spot and classmate Kyle Ogilvy was a winner in four at seven.

Amr Khalifa swept Sam Kang 3-0 at one, winning 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 and improved to 4-0 on the season with three of the four matches decided in straight games. Princeton's Tyler Osborne beat Edgar Zayas in four at two, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7, but the Saints earned wins at three four and five to go with victories in matches seven through nine for the team win.

Ahmed Bayoumy beat David Hoffmann 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 at three, Ibrahim Khan beat Taylor Tutrone 12-10, 11-6, 11-6 at four and Good came out a 3-2 winner over Michael LeBlanc at five. LeBlanc won game one 11-5, but Good came back with 11-3 and 11-7 wins before LeBlanc squared it with a 11-9 win in game four. Good then won 12-10 in the fifth and decisive game.

Abhimanyu Shah of Princeton beat Hussien Elrayes 11-7, 11-8, 11-3 at six, but the Saints swept seven through nine. Kyle Ogilvy and Duncan Maxwell joined Good with 5-0 records to start the season as Ogilvy beat Ben Leizman 11-9, 3-11, 11-4, 11-3 at seven and Maxwell topped Komron Shagyegan 11-1, 12-10, 11-9 at eight. Chris Fernandez was a 11-9, 11-1, 11-3 winner over Keven Bradicich at nine and Lockie Munro beat Jacob Lee in the exhibition at ten , 11-4, 11-3, 11-2.

The Saints are now idle for exams and the holidays and will return to action at Williams on Jan. 6.
