St. Lawrence University's men's squash team bounced back from its first loss of the season on Saturday with a 6-3 win over Yale on Sunday to improve to 8-1 on the year heading into a three-match weekend.
The Saints beat third-ranked Yale for the first time and will play at seventh ranked Cornell on Friday before hosting Tufts and Western Ontario on Saturday. The Saints, who went into the weekend ranked first in the nation, are likely to swap positions with second ranked Trinity, which beat the Saints 7-2 on Saturday.
Moustafa Bayoumy stepped up to the one position for the Saints and completed a 2-0 weekend with a 4-1 win over Thomas Dembrowski. Bayoumy won games one and two by 13-11 and 11-4 scores before Dembrowski extended the match with a 11=7 win in game three. Bayoumy closed it out with a 12-10 win in game four.
Edgar Zayas came through with his second win over the weekend, beating Sam Fenwick 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 at two and Ahmed Bayoumy beat Edward Columbia 12-10, 11-7, 11-4 at three.
Yale won the matches at four through six: Liam McClintock over Hussein Elrayes 3-2 coming back with 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 wins after Elrayes won the first two games 11-8 and 14-12; Thomas Kingshott over Ibrahim Khan 11-6, 12-15, 11-5, 11-1 at five and Max Martin over Anderson Good, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 at six.
The Saints won matches seventh through nine as Duncan Maxell beat Joseph Roberts 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 at seven, Lockie Munro beat Pierson Broadwater 11-9, 11-13, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7 at eight and Chris Fernandez beat Arjun Kochhard 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9 at nine.
