Saints men's squash player Bayoumy wins Consolation Title, Zayas makes Quarters

St. Lawrence University freshman Edgar Zayas made the quarterfinals and classmate Ahmed Bayoumy was the consolation champion in the Pool Division at the College Squash Association national individual championships at Princeton on Saturday.

The Pool Division, for players ranked one through 32 in the nation, was won by Ahmed Abdul Khalek of Bates, the tournament's top seed. Abdul Khalek beat Zayas 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 in Saturday's quarters. Zayas finished his rookie season with a 13-4 record, playing in the top three spots in the Saint lineup.

Bayoumy lost his opening match on Friday, but then won four straight to take the Pool consolation title. He beat Derek Hsue of Penn 11-5, 11-3, 13-11 in his first consolation match, eliminated Rishi Tandon of Columbia 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 in the consolation semifinals and topped 12th seed Neil Cordell of Rochester in five games, 11-7, 5-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-3 in the consolation final. Bayoumy finishes his rookie season with a 15-4 overall mark.

In Molloy Division competition, Anderson Good lost to Trinity's Affeeq Ismail in the round of 16, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 while three Saints lost in the second round consolation draw.. Duncan Maxwell lost to Mason Blake of Virginia 11-4, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8; Lockie Munro to Darrius Campbell of Bates, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7 and Hussein Elrayes to Pierson Broadwater of Yale 5-11, 11-7, 11-2, 14-12.
