For the second time in two weeks, the fifth-ranked St. Lawrence men's squash fell to top-ranked Trinity; this time in the semifinal match of the Potter Cup at the College Squash Association Team Championship on the campus of Harvard University.
Trinity won Saturday's match 7-2 to advance to the championship match against host Harvard, while the Saints were eliminated from the tournament.
The Bantams took a 3-0 lead after the first flight, but the Saints closed the gap to 3-2 with wins from Belal Nawar and No. 5 and Ahmed Bayoumy at No. 2.
Nawar beat Tom De Mulder 3-1 in the fifth spot (11-5, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7) to put St. Lawrence on the board and Bayoumy followed with a four-game win of his own against Rick Penders. Like Nawar, Bayoumy also took a 2-0 lead in his match after 11-8, 11-9 wins. After dropping the third 9-11 he rebounded to edge Penders 11-8 in the fourth for the Saints second point.
Mohamed El Gawarhy (No. 1) and Hussien Elrayes (No. 8) each pushed their matches to five games with wins in the second and third, but Kamar Kush outlasted El Gawarhy 15-13 in the final game and Elrayes lost out to James Evans 11-5.
