Senior Jethro Dede netted two goals, while classmate Brendan McNamee added a goal and an assist to lead the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Union in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Schenectady, New York.

The Dutchmen struck first as Harrison Wenzel scored with a header off the corner kick from Salvador Lopez, Jr. in the 29th minute of play.

At the half, both teams had recorded four shots, while the Dutchmen held a 2-1 shots on goal advantage.

Looking to even the score, McNamee capitalized on a penalty shot opportunity to tie the game 1-1 in the 56th minute.

Just over 10 minutes later, Dede made a solo run across the box and scored on a low shot to the bottom left corner of the goal, giving the Saints a 2-1 advantage in the 69th minute.

McNamee then set up Dede, who chipped a through ball into the box for a 3-1 lead.

"The team played very well today against a tough opponent on the road," said head coach Mike Toshack. "We gave up a goal on a set play, which we're not happy about, but we showed great amounts of character, effort and perseverance to score three goals, two of which were absolutely fantastic. I'm delighted for the team."

Lopez Jr. and Jeremy Conn led the Dutchmen with two shots on goal each.

Saints' goalkeeper Mike Smith recorded five saves for the win, while Trevor Krupp made three for Union.

With the win, the Saints improved to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play, while Union fell to 2-5-0 and 0-2-0.

St. Lawrence will host Route-11 rival Clarkson University on Wednesday, September 26 at 4 p.m.
