First-year Jethro Dede scored his third goal of the season in the 60th minute to help the St. Lawrence men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over No. 23 Skidmore on Senior Day at Sandy MacAllaster Field Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Saints (11-3-2, 5-2-0 LL) take sole possession of first place in the Liberty League standings with 15 points and one game to play in the regular season. Skidmore (9-3-1, 4-2-0 LL) drops into a tie for third with RIT with 12 points.

Skidmore outshot the Saints in the first half 8-6 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Saints and senior goalkeeper Ryan Roethel were able to keep the Thoroughbreds off the board and send the game into the half tied at 0-0.

Dede and the Saints came out strong after the break and the New York, N.Y. native cashed in on a touch pass from sophomore Chandler Short at the top of the box with a hard finish into the left lower 90 to give the Saints the lead.

Skidmore nearly found the equalizer with just over 10 minutes to play with Tim Sullivan in on a break at the edge of the box, but Roethel came off his line and made a sliding save 15 yards out to preserve the shutout; his 11th of the season.

The Saints finished with a slight 16-15 edge in total shots and 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. They also finished with seven corners to Skidmore's five.

Roethel and Skidmore goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach both finished with five saves in the match.

Roethel and classmates Harry Copeland, Jonathan Mendoza, Ryan Grant, Edward Gonzalez, Dan Hunt, Praveen Balakumaran and Christian Yarros were recognized in a pregame ceremony before playing their final regular season match on Sandy. The win improved their record as a class to 59-11-9 overall and 36-3-3 at home.

The Saints will close out the regular season at Clarkson next Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
