Men's soccer senior midfielder Jonathan Mendoza has joined the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League (USL) for the team's training camp in Rochester, N.Y.

"Jonny is another player from our program getting an opportunity at the professional level being in training camp with the Rhinos; a top professional franchise," Head Coach Mike Toshack said. "This opportunity is well deserved as Jonny was an All-League performer and had an outstanding season."

Mendoza earned Liberty League honorable mention honors after an outstanding senior season as one of the Saints starting holding midfielders. He tallied six points on the year, all of which came in the team's 8-0 win over Union on Oct. 17th when he notched two goals – including the first of his collegiate career – and two assists.

"I want to thank my previous coaches, Bob Durocher and Mike Toshack for all they have done for me throughout my career, and Coach Toshack for this amazing opportunity he has provided me with the play at the next level," Mendoza said.

"Playing soccer at St. Lawrence these past four years has allowed me to develop as a player and having someone like Coach Toshack, with so much knowledge about the game and professional experience, gives you the opportunity to keep playing at the next level after your college career here at St. Lawrence," he added.

The Rhinos are the defending 2015 USL Champions and past winners of the US Open Cup competition. The team is also the USL affiliate of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer.
