Lawrence senior Andrew Bednarsky is one of 267 collegiate and international soccer players selected as eligible for the 2014 MLS SuperDraft which begins Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia. He is the first Saints player to be included in the draft since Greg Sutton, who was a second-round pick in 1999.
As a captain for the Saints in 2013, Bednarsky was instrumental in the team's Liberty League Championship and run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. The Hackettstown, N.J. native led the Saints in scoring with nine goals – including five game winners – and eight assists for 26 points.
Bednarsky was a unanimous selection for 2013 Liberty League Player of the Year, named the ECAC Upstate Offensive Players of the Year and earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-American honors.
The St. Lawrence senior is one of only a handful of Division III players included on the list, and joins Cornell's Patrick Slogic (Div. I) as the only players eligible from the East region.
The first two rounds of the draft begin at 12 p.m. (EST) on ESPNEWS and WatchESPN. Rounds three and four will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
