Saints men's soccer falls to No. 13 SUNY Cortland

Captain Brendan McNamee scored the lone goal for the Saints as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team fell to No. 13 SUNY Cortland 3-1 Saturday night in Cortland, New York.

McNamee kicked off scoring for the Saints during the third minute of play. McNamee fired a shot that was saved by Red Dragons' goalkeeper Connor Young, however, Young gave up the rebound and McNamee fired his second shot straight to the back of the net.

Saints' goalkeeper Mike Smith held Cortland at bay with a save just before the 34th minute and continued to make multiple saves throughout the first half.

The Red Dragons put themselves on the board during the 36th minute of play. Jake Keller was awarded a penalty kick that was deflected by Smith, however, Keller was able to pick up the deflection and tie the game 1-1 with just over seven minutes to play in the first half.

Ma'Cain Spragling gave the Red Dragons a one goal advantage with a header goal off the corner kick from Miguel Tunas in the 47th minute.

Just 20 seconds later Migell Ormsby scored his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway off the restart.

SUNY Cortland outshot the Saints 19-7 overall and held an 11-2 shots on goal advantage. Smith finished with eight saves in goal for St. Lawrence, while Young finished with one save for SUNY Cortland.

The Saints fell to 2-3-1 on the season with the loss, while the Red Dragons moved to 6-1 with the win.

St. Lawrence will face off against SUNY Plattsburgh on Tuesday September 19th in their home opener at Sandy MacAllaster Field before opening Liberty League play against Union on September 23rd.
