Senior Christian Yarros scored as time expired in the first half which opened the floodgates for the St. Lawrence men's soccer team, as they scored seven goals in the second half en route to an 8-0 win over Union on Sandy MacAllaster Field.

Fellow seniors Jonathan Mendoza, Harry Copeland and Dan Hunt had multi-point games for the Saints, while Luis Jimenez, Ryan Roche, Jethro Dede, Charlton Kelly and goalkeeper Ryan Roethel also factored into the scoring on Saturday afternoon. Mendoza led the Saints with two goals and two assists after notching the first goal of his career in the 53rd minute.

The Saints earned a corner kick with time winding down in the first half a shot by Dede was blocked by the Union defense. Hunt quickly set the ball and kicked it into the box with just five seconds remaining. Jimenez got a head on it on the near post and flicked it to an awaiting Yarros on the far side, who beat Union goalkeeper John Weitzman for a 1-0 lead and completely shifted the momentum to the Scarlet and Brown.

Early in the second half, Hunt was again in the mix for St. Lawrence as he was hauled down in the box trying to connect on a cross from Mendoza and the Saints were awarded a penalty kick. Mendoza converted on the PK for the first goal of his career and 2-0 lead.

Four minutes later, Ryan Roche was attempting to play the ball forward to Chandler Short in the box but a Union defender made a sliding attempt to intercept the pass and inadvertently put the ball into the net behind Weitzman on the far post to make it 3-0 St. Lawrence.

In the 70th minute, Mendoza notched his second of the day with a hard finish into the right lower 90 after a feed from Dede at the top of the box.

On the fifth Saints goal, Mendoza set up Harry Copeland on a corner kick, as the 6-foot-5 center back was able to elevate in the box and head the ball past Weitzman for his second of the year.

Just over a minute later, Ryan Roethel picked up his first point when her opted to punt the ball rather than roll it out to one of his backs and found Charlton Kelly on a run well beyond midfield. Kelly was able to chip the ball over backup goalkeeper Jonathan Graziosi to push the Saints lead to 6-0.

In the 82nd minute Mendoza found Copeland in the box again, this time on a free kick from 30 yards out on the right side. Much like his first goal, Copeland was able to get above a swarm of Dutchmen defenders and head the ball inside the far post for the team's seventh goal of the day.

The final goal came from Hunt in the 86th minute, as he was once again hauled down while cutting through the box and awarded a penalty kick. Though Graziosi made the initial save in the middle of the net, he couldn't control the rebound and Hunt was there to finish for his third of the season.

St. Lawrence overwhelmed the Dutchmen on Saturday, finishing with a 24-3 shot advantage and holding Union without an attempt for 66 minutes. Roethel, who earned his 10th shutout of the season in the win, made one save in the contest, while Weitzman (3) and Graziosi (2) combined for five stops.

The Saints improve to 10-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the Liberty League while Union falls to 7-2-4 and 1-1-3 against conference opponents.

St. Lawrence will finish out its regular season home schedule and play host to Liberty League leader Skidmore next Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
