The St. Lawrence University men's rowing team opened its 2013-14 season on Saturday at the Bridge-to-Bridge Regatta in Rome, NY. The Saints competed against Colgate University and Hamilton College in three events on the 6.6 km course.

The Saints' men's varsity 8+ "A" team earned a second place finish in the eights race behind only Colgate. The group raced in 26:46.7 and was comprised of Travis Galowski, Alec Durkin, Palchen Wangchuk, Dan Tobin, Steve, Grow, Casimir Misiewicz, and Michael Brewer, and was coxed by Lauren Ward. St. Lawrence also raced a "B" boat in the race, which finished fourth in 27:05.3. Representatives in that boat included Francis Stripp, Evan Pierce, Drew Twitchell, Kyle Benzing, Andy Caswell, Chester Hojnicki, Phil Hodosy, and Justin Dalaba, and was coxed by Shelby Hang.

The men's Novice 8+ was third behind the Continentals and Raiders, respectively, with a time of 27:13.1. The group of newcomers, rowing for St. Lawrence for the first time, included Dylan Hemsted, Erik Werner, Sean Gannon, Alex Hewko, Tim LaBrie, Gunnar Ohlson, Michael Bauman, Karl Strahl and coxswain Christina Robichaud.

The final event was the men's fours, as 12 of the rowers doubled up and raced for the second time that afternoon. The Saints' "A" boat finished second to Hamilton and included Wangchuk, Riordan, Tobin, Grow and Lauren Ward, while the "B" boat finished in third and was comprised of Stripp, Pierce, Hodosy, Dalaba and Hang.

St. Lawrence did enter a novice 4+, but did not have an official time taken due to weather. That boat included Bauman, Hewko, Gannon, Werner and Robichaud.

The Saints will compete again on Saturday, October 26 at the 2013 Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga, NY.
