The St. Lawrence University men's novice four won its race with the novice 8 finishing second at the Rochester Sprints hosted by RIT to open the 2013 spring rowing season.
The Saint crew of Travis Galowski, Sam Pratt, Steve Grown and Dan Tobin with cox Lauren Ward rowed 7:15.95 to finish nearly 17 seconds in front of the boat from the University of Rochester in the novice-4 competition.
The novice-8, Galwoski, Pratt, Grow, Tobin, Jack Riordan, Francis Stripp, Mike Lynskey, Justin Dalaba and cox Ward finished second in 6:29.91, just over three seconds behind RIT, which won in 6:26.74. Stripp was rowing in his second straight race as the Saints were shorthanded due to injury. He was also part of the varsity 8, which finished fourth in 6:44.47, joining Andy Caswell, Tom Joyce, Ted Marr, Kyle Benzing, Michael Brewer, Talon Lomahquahu, Drew Mitchell and cox Audrey Strasenburgh.
The Saint varsity 4, Lomahquahu, Bening, Brewer and Drew Twitchell with cox Strasenburgh finished third in 7:25.98.
The Saints will return to action April 13 at Ithaca College.
