St. Lawrence University junior Kyle Curry recorded a career-best 17th place finish in the men's 10k free, helping the Saints men's Nordic team to fifth place at the 2015 Bates Carnival on Saturday at Rumford.

Curry raced in 25:22.2, good for his first collegiate top-20, and followed senior teammate Austin Meng, who was 14th overall in 25:12.5. The duo was joined by Will Frielinghaus in the scoring, as his 28th place showing landed the team in a tie for fifth with 71.0 points with Middlebury College. St. Lawrence was fourth amongst EISA institutions.

Calvin Swomley finished just out of the scoring for St. Lawrence in 29th place, while Blaine Ayotte (32nd) and Philip Marshall (55th) also competed for head coach Ethan Townsend.

Dartmouth College won the men's 10k team title with 125.0 points, led by individual champion Patrick Caldwell (23:17.5).

The Saints women's Nordic squad finished in 10th place in the 5k free with 36.0 points, half of which came from Kate Mulcahy. The Glens Falls, NY native raced in 15:28.6, earning 18.0 points for her second collegiate top-30 finish. Meanwhile, Erin Perryman (34th) and Taren McGray (53rd) capped the team's scoring. First-year students Dana Hatton (58th) and Elizabeth Landry (66th) also raced for the Saints on Saturday.

Middlebury College was victorious in the 5k free, led by individual winner Heather Mooney.

St. Lawrence will compete again next weekend, January 23 and 24, at the 2014 UVM Carnival at the Trapp Family Lodge.
