St. Lawrence University's men's distance medley relay team moved into the top 16 nationally with its converted time at the Tufts Last Chance Invitational on Wednesday night but are one spot short of the position needed to guarantee a bid to the NCAA Championship.
The team of Harrison Sloan, Chris Payton, Spencer Patterson and Scott Smolensky ran 10:02.65 at Tufts which converts to 9:54.58 when the conversion for a flat track is applied. That time ranks 16th nationally in Division III and the top 15 teams qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. Six teams in the top 16 improved their positioning in the Tufts meet in the event.
Competition for the Saints will continue Friday and Saturday at the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.
