Conor Healey scored four goals while Jeremy Vautour, Jordan Dow and Charlie Duprey added three points each for the St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse team but it was not enough as the #8 ranked Saints dropped a 16-12 decision to #2 RIT Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League game on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

The loss was the first of the season for St. Lawrence (8-1 overall, 1-1 Liberty League) after the Saints opened the season with a school-record eight victories to start a year.

RIT (10-0, 3-0) and St. Lawrence played to a 2-2 tie in the first quarter as Dow and Jon Fairbanks scored goals for the Saints.

In the second quarter, the Tigers scored twice in a span of 30 seconds to take a 4-2 lead before Healey scored the first of four goals to narrow the gap.

RIT added two more goals to forge ahead 6-3 but the Saints battled back as Vautour and Dow scored within a minute of each other to trim the RIT lead to 6-5. A late RIT goal gave the Tigers a 7-5 edge at halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the third quarter as Vautour added his second of the game and Healey scored a man-up goal to make it a 9-7 RIT lead.

The Tigers responded seven seconds later with a man-down goal which started a steak of five-of-six goals as RIT took a 14-8 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Saints battled back again scoring four of the next five goals with Healey notching two, Duprey adding one and Fairbanks scoring his second of the game to trim the lead to 15-12 with 1:01 left to play.

The Tigers scored with 13 seconds left for the final margin of victory.

Healey led the Saints with four points while Vautour and Dow had three points on two goals and an assist each and Duprey added three points with a goal and two assists. Fairbanks scored twice for two points and Andrew Jarrett also had two points with a goal and an assist.

Ryan Fisher made 10 saves in the St. Lawrence goal as the senior suffered his first loss of the year to fall to 8-1.

The Saints will play a non-conference game at SUNY Plattsburgh at 7 pm Wednesday before returning to Liberty League play next Saturday at Bard.
