Western New England College went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter and never again trailed in a 16-13 NCAA Division III men's college lacrosse victory over St. Lawrence in Clermont, FL on Monday.

Conor Healey led the 2-3 Saints with two goals and five assists while Jeremy Vautour had three goals and two assists. SLU will play Springfield College in Orlando on Wednesday in the second game of its Spring Break trip.

David Cedrone won 21 of 29 faceoffs for Western New England to play a key role in the victory. Justin Bard scored five goal and Max Bertelli had two goals and four assists to lead the Golden Bears, now 3-3 on the season.

The 6-0 run to start the second period helped the Bears to a 10-5 lead at the half and while the Saints were able to come back, they couldn't get back to even. A 4-1 run to start the second half pulled the Saints to within two, 11-9 and they got to within a goal at 15-13 on back-to-back goals by Vautour and Healey with 3:56 o go, but Bertelli made it 15-13 with his second of the game with 1:01 to play and Keegan Dudek scored with 14 seconds to go to wrap it up.

Brandon Body made 11 saves for the Bears while Nick Ford had two saves in the first half and Andrew Butturini made one save in the second half for the Saints.

The Saints had the statistical edge in the game except in faceoffs, outshooting the Bears 37-32, gaining 19 ground balls to 15 for WNEC and making only nine turnovers to 23 for the Bears.

In addition to the scoring of Vautour and Healey, Charlie Duprey chipped in with three goals and Tommy Hovey and Chris Anklin had two each. Jon Fairbanks had a single goal and Hovey, Robbie Dowers and Austin Nadeau had single assists.
