Just before the end of the first period, Tommy Hovey scored with a shot over his back shoulder to trim the lead to 3-2 as the first quarter ended.

Rensselaer dominated the second quarter winning all six face-offs and outscoring the Saints 4-1for a 7-3 lead heading into the halftime intermission. Connor Brimley netted the lone St. Lawrence goal in the second quarter.

Another RPI goal to start the second half gave the Engineers a five-goal lead at 8-3.

Hovey started the St. Lawrence comeback rally with his second of the game with 3:53 left in the third quarter and Charlie Jennings scored 20 seconds later making it an 8-5 RPI lead at the end of three quarters.

Vautour started the final quarter with a man-up goal to cut further into the lead but RPI answered less than a minute later to regain the three-goal lead.

DiLisio scored with 8:22 left and Vautour added his second of the quarter three minutes later to make it a 9-8 game with just 5:32 on the clock.

Hovey, Vautour and Dilisio all scored two goals each while Brimley and Jennings each scored once. Jon Fairbanks had the only assist of the day for the Saints. Nick Ford and Andrew Butturini combined to make eight saves in the St. Lawrence goal.
