Two first-period power-play goals proved to be the difference on Saturday night, as the St. Lawrence men's hockey team fell to No. 10/9 Cornell, 3-1, at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, New York.

Andrew McIntyre scored the lone goal of the game for St. Lawrence, his fourth of the season, in the second period. Keenan Suthers and Ted McGeen finished with assists.

The Saints played well against the Big Red with the teams skating five aside, and outshot them in both the second and third periods, but the early 2-0 deficit was too much to overcome.

Cornell went 2-for-4 with the man advantage on Saturday, while the Saints power-play goal streak ends at four games with a 0-for-3 night.

Cornell got on the board at 5:39 of the first period when Michael Regush put a rebound behind Saints' netminder Emil Zetterquist with Yanni Kaldis and Jeff Malott assisting on the power play goal.

Less than five minutes later, Morgan Barron's power play goal put Cornell in front 2-0 and eventually served as the game winner.

Barron's initial shot was stopped by Zetterquist, as you could hear it hit his pads, but it skipped over his right leg and trickled into the goal at 10:17.

The second period was the strongest on the night for St. Lawrence, as they held Cornell to just four shots.

Midway through the middle frame Suthers and McIntyre combined on a give-and-go at the side of the net, with Suthers hitting McIntyre cutting across the crease for a redirect over the glove of Cornell's Matthew Galajda to make it 2-1 in favor of the Big Red.

Just minutes after the Saints cut the deficit in half, Cornell regained its two-goal lead with a well-placed wrister by Mitch Vanderlaan from the right faceoff dot over Zetterquist's glove at 16:19 for the final 3-1 margin.

St. Lawrence pulled Zetterquist with 2:48 to play in regulation and dominated possession skating 6-on-5, taking 11 shots, including one by Alex Gilmour that rang the crossbar. Cornell also blocked six of the Saints' attempts during that stretch.

The Saints' Philip Alftberg thwarted Cornell's one bid at the empty net, blocking a shot from Barron in the slot with his chest before clearing the zone.

Cornell finished with a slight 24-21 edge in shots on goal, with Galajda making 20 saves in the win. Zetterquist finished with 21 stops for St. Lawrence.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 4-23-1 and 2-13-1 in ECAC Hockey games. Cornell improves to 15-6-2 and 11-3-2 against conference opponents.

St. Lawrence will host Harvard and Dartmouth at Appleton Arena next weekend.
