St. Lawrence University senior Jack Whelan continued to climb the leaderboard at the 2015 NCAA Division III men's golf championships and is tied for fifth going into the final 18 holes on Friday.

Whelan, who was named the winner of the Martha Finch Award for men as the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete in the class of 2015 earlier in the week shot a one-over par 73 on the 7200 yard East Course at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro, NC on Thursday and is seven strokes off the individual lead which is shared by Kelby Sharmann of LaVerne and second round leader Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe who are both seven under par through 54 holes.

Ryan Elmore of Berry College is third at four under and Brian Burt of Hampden-Sydney is fourth at one under going into Friday's final 18. Whelan is one of three players who are even par for the first three rounds.

He had four birdies, five bogies and nine pars in Thursday's round, making the turn at even-par 36. He went two over on the first three holes of the back nine, but birdied the 565 yard par five 13th and then ran off five straight pars to finish.
