St. Lawrence University first-year Aleksei Bingham was the top collegiate finisher to lead the 26th-ranked Saints' men's cross country team to second place at the four-team Roo Invitational hosted by SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon.

Bingham finished the eight-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 47.22 seconds to claim the top spot among collegiate competitors. Evan Page '18 won the individual title as an unattached runner, finishing in 26:35.53.

Clarkson scored 25 points to edge out St. Lawrence, which scored 31 points with most of the team's top runners taking the week off. SUNY Canton was third with 92 points, while Paul Smith's was fourth with 100.

Head Coach John Newman '94

"The guys had a very competitive team battle with Clarkson. We came on strong in the late, hilly stages of the race led by Aleksei Bingham. We almost broke up Clarkson's scoring group enough to challenge for the team win but came up just short of the team title at the end of the day. Props to Clarkson for placing their pack so tightly at the front of the race to take the team honors.

"Despite the wet and rainy conditions, several guys produced lifetime-best performances on Canton's hilly course. I was especially impressed with our first-year guys as it was only their second or third full 8K. The guys performed with confidence and poise to give Clarkson a formidable challenge late in the race. I was very happy to see that our biggest improvement came from sophomore, Griffin Feeney, who dropped well over a minute from his previous personal best."
