The St. Lawrence University men's crew team opened it 2010-11 season, traveling to Rome, NY to take part in the Bridge to Bridge Head Race hosted by Hamilton College.
The 6.6 km race took place on the Erie Canal.
"The varsity 8 has spent much of the fall rowing in 4s at lower rates so I was pleased with how they rowed the 8," Coach George Repicky said. "That's our first time at a 28 all season and the splits were incredibly consistent for the entire race."
In the men's Varsity 8 event, Colgate came in first with a time of 22:02.41. The Saints eight came in behind the Raiders with a time of 23:03.48. The novice eight rounded out the event 19 seconds behind the Hamilton boat.
"The novice 8 has a lot of potential to be a very fast boat this spring," Coach Repicky added. "They are big, strong, and with a little more water time I think they will really be able to move a boat."
The Saints also raced two boats in the Varsity 4. The "B" boat came in third with a time of 25:34.74, less than a minute behind the second place Hamilton boat. The Saints "A" boat came in fifth with a time of 26:29.43, less than 40 seconds behind the fourth place Hamilton boat.
In the novice 4, the St. Lawrence boat came in third place with a time of 28:31.62.
The Saints will travel to Rochester, NY to take part in the Head of the Genesee race on October 16th.
