Saints men's basketball set to take on Hobart in Conference Semifinals

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team secured a bye in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament after posting an 84-72 win over Ithaca on February 9 and will return to the conference semifinals as the No. 2 seed for the first time since the 2016-17 season to face third-seeded Hobart in the first semifinal game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.

St. Lawrence closed the regular season 16-9 overall and 13-5 in Liberty League action. The Saints currently average 69.6 points per game and are led by Riley Naclerio with 14.8 points per game and Ben Crawford with 8.8 points per game. Crawford's rebounding average ranks second in the league, while Naclerio sits 10th in scoring.

First year Cale Sargent leads the Saints shooting 51.6% from 3-point range, while classmate Luke Hicks has recorded a team-high 91 assists on the season and ranks third on the Saints' squad with 10.7 points per game.

The Scarlet and Brown swept the regular-season series against the Statesmen, posting a 73-62 win in Geneva, New York on January 22 and a 72-58 win at home in Burkman Gymnasium on February 1.

In the first game, Naclerio scored 21 points and was 9-for-10 from the free throw line, while Crawford scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Hicks added 13 points.

In the second game, Dom DeRegis shot a stellar 6-for-7 from the arc and led the Saints with 18 points, while Hicks scored 15 points and Naclerio recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

St. Lawrence holds a 65-42 all-time record over Hobart.

Hobart currently averages 75.3 points per game and is led by Colin Dougherty, who ranks second in the league with 17.9 points per game. Edens Fleurizard leads the Statesmen in rebounding with 7.6 per game.

Top-seeded Skidmore will face No. 4 Ithaca in the second semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and the two winners will move on to the championship game on Sunday, February 24 at 2 p.m.
