Saints men’s basketball falls to Plattsburgh on the road

Kyle Edwards scored 20 points and Riley Naclerio added 15 points for the St. Lawrence University Men's Basketball team but it was not enough Tuesday night as SUNY Plattsburgh rallied in the second half to score a 77-65 victory in a non-conference game at Memorial Hall in Plattsburgh.

St. Lawrence (1-4) jumped out to an early lead scoring 10 of the first 14 points of the contest but Plattsburgh (2-1) battled back to tie the game at 18-18. With theKyle Edwards led St. Lawrence with 20 points against Plattsburgh game tied at 23-23 a few minutes later, the Cardinals went on a 13-0 run to forge ahead 36-23.

St. Lawrence closed out the half on a 9-4 run and went into the halftime intermission down eight points at 40-32.

In the second half, Edwards connected on a 3-pointer with 15:34 left to play to trim the lead to five points at 48-43. Neither team was able to score for nearly two minutes before Naclerio cut the lead to a single basket with a 3-pointer.

Plattsburgh answered with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to regain a double-digit lead at 61-48 with 8:48 on the clock.

Another Edwards 3-pointer at the 5:38 mark trimmed the lead to six points but Plattsburgh scored seven of the next nine points to regain control.

The Saints shot 34 percent (20-for-59) from the field while the Cardinals shot nearly 40% (28-for-72) and outrebounded the Saints 54-36.

Naclerio added a team-leading eight rebounds and Edwards handed out four assists to lead the Saints.

St. Lawrence returns to action at 7 pm Friday at Elmira and at Ithaca for a 4 pm game Saturday.
